From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (edited):
The pear is the pomaceous fruit of any of several tree species of genus Pyrus, in the family Rosaceae (the rose family – which also includes apples, quinces, plums, cherries, peaches, apricots, raspberries, loquats, strawberries and almonds). The pear is native to coastal and mildly temperate regions of the Old World, from western Europe and north Africa east right across Asia. Several species of pear are valued for their edible fruit, while others are cultivated as ornamental trees.
Below you’ll find the name and approximate average ripening date of the many different varieties of pears we grow at Detering Orchards. Please keep in mind that ripening dates are rough approximations and vary from year to year.
