When we think of berries most of us usually think of fruit like raspberries, strawberries and blueberries. We would also probably describe a berry as a small, sweet, juicy fruit that makes a good dessert. Unfortunately, most of us would be wrong because we'd be using the term incorrectly. In botany (plant biology) the definition of a berry is 'a simple fruit having seeds and pulp produced from a single ovary', which a strawberry or raspberry is not but grapes, avocados, tomatoes and peppers are. That being said, we know that 'technically' some of the items on this page are not true berries, but we're not botanist so we hope you'll forgive us our little quirks by listing them here anyway. (After all, you don't want the blueberries to get lonely, do you?)

At Detering Orchards we love berries so much that we offer several different varieties; you'll find their names and approximate ripening dates below. Just keep in mind that ripening dates are rough approximations and can vary from year to year.
