Apples

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:
(edited) The apple is the pomaceous fruit of the species Malus domestica in the rose family (Rosaceae). It is one of the most widely cultivated tree fruits. The tree originated in Central Asia, where its wild ancestor, Malus sieversii, is still found today. Apples have been grown for thousands of years in Asia and Europe, and were brought to North America by European colonists. There are more than 7,500 known cultivars of apples. Many beneficial health effects are thought to result from eating apples.

Detering Orchards grows dozens of different varieties of apples. Below you'll find the name and approximate ripening date for each variety, but please keep in mind that ripening dates are rough approximations and can vary from year to year.
